SAM can be overwhelming: it requires significant investment in resources and tools, and can still result in out of-control costs and software audit findings. Publishers continually create new ways to sell their software, which invariably makes it more difficult to manage entitlements. Without a well-developed SAM program, consumers can find themselves riddled with compounding shelf-ware costs and large compliance penalty fees for license over-deployment.

A proper software asset management function relies on an adept team of professionals that have expertise in publisher licensing models, conducting organizational audits for license compliance, and have in-depth knowledge on the functionality and limitations of SAM tools. Resources with this level of proficiency are hard for organizations to find, as they typically require multiple years of software auditing experience and can be costly additions to an organization’s SAM team.

This session will review best practices of SAM, including tips and gotchas from the point of view of a team of former software auditors.  Each speaker brings subject matter expertise in licensing models from the top software providers in the industry including Oracle, Microsoft, IBM, SAP, MicroFocus, Quest and more.

Session Highlights Include:

  • Learn best practices for maintaining compliance and mitigating IT expenditure risk
  • Understand the functionality and limitations of SAM tools
  • Where to begin to establish and maintain an effective SAM program
  • How to stress test your current SAM program for potential gaps
  • What to do if you are being audited?
